Shortly after "Talk Like a Pirate Day," we had our September hike at the Water Resources Education Center in Vancouver, Washington. I believe that this was the first hike that the group has done in Washington. We convened outside the museum building at 2:00 PM and began our hike.
We started on a paved trail that eventually led to the beach, where some interesting views of the Columbia River could be had.
While walking along the shore, we ran into a young woman who seemed to really be enjoying walking on the soft clay. Kyle introduced her to the group, and she seemed somewhat interested. I don't believe that we ever heard from her again, though.
Eventually, we headed back to the museum. Instead of turning around, we took a different route through another paved trail. Upon our return, we discovered that the museum was open on Saturdays and that there were still a few minutes until closing time. Since there was no admission charge, we wandered in and spent a few minutes looking at various exhibits. The museum staff was courteous, and not a word was said about us walking barefoot in the building.
After our Museum visit, Donny and I paid our last farewell to Kyle's 1979 Toyota pickup, which was to be sold to a used car dealer the following Monday. There were still a few hours of daylight left after Kyle went home, so Donny and I paid a short visit to Fort Vancouver, which was nearby.
