Who We Are

We are ordinary, everyday people who like to add the sense of touch to our walking/hiking experience by going barefoot. There are no fees, dues, or membership forms in our organization; all you need to do is to show up at the hikes.

Where We Hike

Just about any location in the greater Portland, OR area is game, and we're open to suggestions! In the past, we have done beginner to intermediate level hikes at Powell Butte and in various sections of Forest Park.

This sounds cool, but is it safe? Is any special preparation needed?

We strongly recommend that everyone bring a bottle of drinking water. Beginnners may bring emergency shoes, but all participants are expected to begin the hikes barefoot. Our experience has shown that the risk of puncture wounds or other injuries is nil. However, to keep our hikes safe, please adhere to the following guidelines:
  • Watch where you are going. Although the places that we visit are generally clean, we do encounter avoidable hazards from time to time.
  • Always step straight down; don't shuffle your feet. This reduces the likelyhood of tripping or stubbed toes.
  • Be especially careful on muddy trails, as mud can be slippery! Trust us; we learned this the hard way.
  • No horseplay. Although we welcome hikers of all ages, parents (or legal guardians) are expected to ensure that their children follow all of these guidelines and the instructions of the hike leader.
  • Please follow all posted regulations in any park or location that we visit.
  • If you are diabetic or have any other medical condition that limits circulation to the extremities, we do not recommend barefoot hiking. If in doubt, consult your physician.

We also recommend that you regularly walk barefoot to build up the soles of your feet. Though not likely to cause injury, our hikes may be too intense for those who are not used to walking barefoot outdoors.
